Falsies

Your ultimate guide to using falsies

by @BeautyBySammy97

The thought of gluing a strip of faux hairs onto your eyelids or getting tweezers near this sensitive area can seem rather daunting, especially if you are new to the world of falsies. But let me tell you, once you experience the confidence boost that a good pair of falsies (such as the Linespring vault series) can give you, there’s no turning back!

I’ve been playing around with lashes for a few years now, and below are my thoughts on some of the questions I have received regarding falsies.

Let’s begin by distinguishing between “temporary strip lashes” and “semi-permanent eyelash extensions”. Strip lashes come in pairs and are usually applied by yourself with a pair of tweezers/lash applicator and temporary eyelash adhesive. These last a couple of hours, and can be removed at any time. Semi permanent lash extensions are individual lashes that are placed onto your lash line and blended with your natural lashes. This process is done by a professional eyelash technician and requires maintenance or in other words, “a lash fill” (every 2-4 weeks).

How does one care for their eyelash extensions?

  1. Make sure to avoid oil-based makeup removers as well as facial cleansers as they cause the lash glue to soften and breakdown. Use an earbud with makeup remover to remove the makeup on your lash line.

  2. Avoid applying mascara over the eyelash extensions as this will cause the lashes to fall out untimely

  3. Be extremely gentle when removing the makeup around the eye area

  4. Do not rub your eyes

  5. Use a clean ‘spoolie’ (dry mascara wand) to gently comb through the lashes day & night

  6. Avoid getting the lashes too wet, especially in the shower.

Eyelash extensions seem pretty high maintenance right?… well, they are. I personally tried it out a few years ago and absolutely hated the maintenance and all the ‘rules’ that came with it. Yes, it saves time on makeup application and you’ll look all cute when you wake up in the morning but I would much rather stick to strip lashes. The thing about strip lashes is that it’s exciting to try out all kinds of different styles - from natural to dramatic. Linespring has the most beautiful range of lashes from super natural to super fluttery & dramatic! My go-to styles from Linespring are “Natural”, “Blossom” & “Extra”.

So, how much does it cost to maintain lash extensions?

An initial set of eyelash extensions can cost up to R600 - R950. Maintenance thereafter, costs between R300 - R450 every 2-4 weeks. Some eyelash technicians have said that to qualify for a “fill”, a minimum of 10 individual falsies have to be visible per eye.

Let’s just say eyelash extensions will not become friends with your bank account…another reason why I have chosen to stick with strip lashes when I want to enhance my look. Linespring has a pack of 3 pairs of faux mink beautiful strip lashes for R225. They also have a natural pack of 5 pairs of lashes for just R200. And these strip lashes can be used multiple times!
